  6. ATTENTION ALL USERS -- PLEASE READ BEFORE INSTALLING
  7. ----------------------------------------------------
  8. This is v3.00 BETA 2 of the Stealth Pro Install / Windows Drivers 
  9. disk.  While this driver has completed hundreds of hours of 
  10. compatibility testing, Diamond has not completed full testing of 
  11. these files and dupicated outstanding issues.  By using this BETA 
  12. disk, you are agreeing to accept the risks of testing Windows 
  13. drivers that have known and unknown limitations.  Diamond offers 
  14. NO warranty on this software.  Use at your own risk.  Please 
  15. backup any system critical files before installation.
  16.  
  17. Installation Notes
  18. ------------------
  19. Use the INSTALL file to install the Windows 3.1 drivers from DOS 
  20. or from the Windows Program Manager.  
  21.  
  22. *  Suggestion:  Use MS VGA when installing from Program Manager 
  23.    to eliminate any OEM files that could create a conflict.
  24.  
  25. *  If the install says "file exists, overwrite Y/N" for any of 
  26.    the .VBX files, OVERWRITE it.  The files provided are newer
  27.    than those provided with Visual BASIC 3.0 and other VB apps.
  28.    Leaving old files will produce errors like "Enter an integer".
  29.  
  30. *  If the install says "file in use, abort/continue" and the 
  31.    file in question is a font (*.FON) file, continue the install.
  32.  
  33. *  If strange errors occur and text is missing from dialogs,
  34.    check for .VBX files in your \WINDOWS directory.  .VBX files
  35.    should only reside in the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM subdirectory.
  36.  
  37. Once the driver launches Windows, you will be placed in 640x480
  38. 16-color mode and prompted to select your monitor type.  Select 
  39. the brand monitor you have, compatible type, or use the Custom 
  40. Monitor Timings to create your own configuration and custom 
  41. screen centering.
  42.  
  43. *  Icon fonts are controlled by InControl Tools.  When changing
  44.    modes back to VGA or a non-Diamond driver, these settings
  45.    still remain.  To change back to default icon font, search
  46.    the WIN.INI file for the IconTypeFace, IconTypeStyle, and
  47.    IconTypeSize lines.  Place a semicolon (;) in front of these
  48.    lines or remove the lines entirely.

  50. *  Only resolutions that have been selected as supported in the
  51.    Display module will be available in the Viewport choices.  If
  52.    your monitor can display a resolution provided by the card,
  53.    go to Display and select a monitor that offers that mode and
  54.    refresh, or select Custom Monitor Timings and Add the mode.
  55.  
  56. *  If Windows only displays a single alphabetic character for the
  57.    icon font, select a different font from the list of InControl
  58.    Tools.  Windows may not support the font type/size requested
  59.    in the resolution and resource size displayed.
  60.  
  61. *  If you had screen savers loaded previously, and they seem not
  62.    to load on startup any longer, see the message at the top 
  63.    regarding backing up important files and the limitation down
  64.    below of LOAD= line being replaced and not appended.  This is
  65.    a limitation of the Windows 3.xx SETUP program.

  68. Utilities
  69. ---------
  70. STLMODE should be installed for all first-time operations.  This 
  71. program controls the frequencies sent to the monitor for all 
  72. non-Windows programs and will allow the high resolution and high 
  73. color modes to syncronize correctly on your screen.
  74.  
  75. STLMODE.EXE allows selection of text modes, video emulation modes, 
  76. and monitor mode frequencies for all environments outside of DOS.  
  77. Monitor timing information is saved to the EEPROM on the Stealth 
  78. Pro and is automatically loaded on powerup or reset.
  79.  
  80. Users with monitors not conforming to the industry preset monitors
  81. provided can select the CUSTOM MONITOR option which allows 
  82. selection of frequencies, sync polarities, and screen centering 
  83. for each video resolution and color depth.  Please consult your 
  84. monitor manual for the exact capabilities of your monitor before 
  85. selecting monitor timing.  We strongly urge that selection of 
  86. monitor timings in CUSTOM be made for all resolutions and color 
  87. depths.

  126.      *  24-bit Some 'spin' arrow buttons may appear clear not

  128.      *  16/24-bit - Help hypertext is black, not green.  This is 
  129.         a limitation of Windows 3.xx and will not be addressed.
  130.      *  Resolutions and color depths can not be selected from the
  131.         DOS SETUP program (to be added in release).
  132.      *  Previous installations of drivers are not uninstalled.
  133.         Selecting the Diamond icon in Control Panel will GPF.
  134.         Selecting the InControl Tools icon in Control Panel is ok
  135.      *  Using the DOS install, WIN.INI and SYSTEM.INI files over 
  136.         64k in size may be truncated.
